OUR STORY

The village of Metamora did not have a bakery for over 40 years and a cafe with

quality coffee is something the community really needed.  Seeing that need for

something new in her neighborhood, founder and owner Patricia (Pat) McAllister retired

from her corporate life and took on her passion of baking and establishing a place to

bring family and friends together.  Established in 2013, Historic Grounds was,

and continues to be, a true labor of love.

The team at Historic Grounds take great pride in their made-from-scratch

bakery items, using family recipes that have been passed down from

generations.  Pat and her bakers have over 150 years of combined

experience and work together to create the best pastries, cookies

and dessert bars.  In fact, Historic Grounds has become the go-to

bakery for their already deliciously famous cinnamon rolls.  Speaking

of famous, most people know Metamora for its historical significance

with President Abraham Lincoln practicing law in the nearby courthouse

as a young lawyer.  In fact, the village is even mentioned in the recent

Oscar-winning film "Lincoln" (2012).

The original building for Historic Grounds used to be a grocery store owned by

Mr. Abersol and later Mr. Isch.  Inside, you will find a history wall with pictures showing

the past and its progression into present day.  Some life-long residents of Metamora still remember those market days and appreciate how the bakery still honors the past with its original red brick and how the community now has a new place to gather for

special events and social activities on the square.
